Bronde Is The New Blonde![]() Shear Serenity Salon is home to Pearl River’s best hair stylists including our Colorist/Stylist Samantha Diliberto who shares pro tips for balayage and getting the bronde (brown – blonde) look for fall. Sometimes we get lucky enough to color someone with naturally dark hair. If coloring, do the research to find a stylist that is not only known for being great, but known for his/her knowledge of color and that understands how to work with dark hair and not just blonde. While there are many great colorists out there, many have a specialty, like in medicine. Working with dark hair requires patience and a keen eye for detail, there is more subtlety and nuance in acquiring the right shade for brunette’s going lighter.
If someone is a hair dye virgin and just wants to experiment with “natural” or mild looking color, a glossing service is a perfect intro to color. A gloss is a quick service that is typically applied at the shampoo basin and lasts about a month. It will bring out shine and more dimension in the hair and can add depth and tone if desired. When having a new client in the chair, we always begin with a nice little dialogue about what is going on in life and the expectations for any changes. That convo really gives me a feel for what we can achieve in the session and what will be the best fit for lifestyle at the given time. In some cases, we will work on gradually getting the hair light vs. going from dark to light immediately over several appointments. Patience is key. Sometimes it doesn't work to just go “bronde” (brown-blonde) overnight. The integrity of the hair is always most important so I never push the hair past its limits. Giving it time to rest between sessions and proper at home care makes all the difference. The home routine is really where the battle for healthy hair is won or lost. Things to know; Inevitably, highlighted hair can turn brassy over time. A gloss in the salon is a great quick fix. Also, color treated hair needs a little more love than virgin, untreated hair. A good rule of thumb is, the more often you color and use heat to style your hair, the often you should use a mask and products. All hair can benefit from heat protection, particularly highlighted hair, and richer shades benefit from UV protection from fading, especially in summer! June 9th 2017 - 10 successful years as a salon, celebrated by giving back! November 2016 - Owner Samantha is hiring a new salon coordinator. She ends up hiring a native Norwegian girl, Rae. With background as a stylist and competitive dancer in her home country, and experience as marketing assistant for Meatpacking District BID. ...their connection was instant!
Over our first sushi lunch together, the planning of Glam Up & Give Back began. 10 years as a salon was a huge milestone, and it needed to be celebrated. The passion for hair and fashion was definitely a huge part of what we wanted to show at the event. Samantha's big heart for children, family and community was the reason we wanted it to be a fundraiser. We contacted Penguin Plunge, and they were immediately on board. We were going to raise money for three seriously ill children and their families. Gabriella Carney, Noah Diaz and Molly McGovern were the three wonderful children we were more then excited to help! Over the next few months, we made phone calls, wrote emails, posted on social media and did walk-ins to get donations in the form of money, raffle prizes, clothing for our fashion show, stages, lights, decor, photographer, you name it. We reached out to absolutely everyone we could think of, and was sleeping, eating and breathing the fundraiser! The day of Glam Up & Give Back, June 9th 2017 - we wouldn't be able to do it without family and friends! Thanks to Shine Events, Heather & Birch Floral Design, Elegant Balloons and A Creative Touch - Knight's Of Columbus never looked better! Also the outdoor tent from the Quaranti Family that hosted live band S.R.O, our huge blow up tavern from Tavern On The Lawn that functioned as our scotch and cigar lounge, was making the event extra special! Looking back, our fashion show dedicated to the decades from 1920's - present day was definitely the highlight of the night. The local models were shining on the runway, and dancers from Nymcheck Dance Studio were dancing to the beats of DJ Steve. Over 100 prizes were raffled off that night, and we are so proud to say that we raised $10,000 for the three families! Thank you to everyone that came out, donated and made the extra special!
